In 2016, Optimum celebrated 40 years of activity in the property and
casualty insurance industry. In 1976, the Optimum Group acquired Société Nationale
d’Assurance inc., a Montreal-based insurer serving jewelers and fur businesses.
Throughout the years, we continued to expand by making further acquisitions. First,
with the purchase of the British Columbia Insurance Company in 1983, then with
National Frontier Insurance Company in 1985, an Ontario firm specialized in hunting
and fishing lodges.
In 1988, in order to align all Optimum P&C operations in Canada,
we created the holding company Optimum General Inc. During the 80’s and 90’s,
our organization made eleven other acquisitions, the last major one being Union
Québécoise in 1995, which became Optimum Farm Insurance located in Trois-Rivières.
